Thadingyut – festival of light in Burma
In the Myanmar calendar, Thadingyut means the seventh month (waso) and at the end of the Buddhist lent. Your shoes and socks must be removed before commencing the climb up at each entrance and you can take a bag with you to put them in. The approach road is not that good. However, you can be transported into a unique world once inside it. Make sure you appropriately dressed as shorts and short length dresses are not allowed. You should to have some cold bottled water with you as the top gets exceedingly hot and looking round takes quite a while.

Kyaikhtiyo known as “Golden Rock” which is the third most important Buddhist pilgrimage site in Burma after the Shwedagon Pagoda from Yangon and the Mahamuni Pagoda from Mandalay. It is certainly one of the most important religious sites in Burma and a dream destination for devout Buddhists. It is It looks like it could crash down the hill at any moment and area of contact with the cliff is extremely small. It is also little wonder with such sacred awe. A trip to Kyaikhtiyo can include either a challenging walk or a thrilling journey.

To get the Golden Rock you have to take a truck or walk. It is not an easy ride because you have to wait about 45 minutes for a truck full of people to the top of the mountain. They do stop on the way up to pass another lorry on the way down. Although it is sticky and hot, you can see how the local people live. Moreover, you can watch a stall with 'witch-doctor' ingredients for magic including monkey skulls and snake skins! It's fun, gorgeous and very worthwhile. Going up is not much of a problem, the scenic view from the top is amazing. However, coming down is like hell let loose.
